I’ve never really been a fan of girly things… I have always preferred playing with Lego, pretending to be a Power Ranger, and hanging out with boys. I’m not saying this is the main reason I am into computer games, as many girls are ‘gamers’, but being the pink Power Ranger has definitely helped my aim and agility in most FPS games.

Never really given the opportunity to play video games in my own home, I relied on friends and their consoles for my fix. Playing games like Sonic and Tekken, while swapping lunch snacks for a chance to borrow a GameBoy for the evening seemed to be the only way around it. I did session Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego to death, encyclopedia in hand, which I am not necessarily proud of… Once I got my hands on Half Life, Quake, and Unreal Tournament I was pretty much hooked, and I have to admit that meeting Ryan did help. He has taught me a great deal about games, and I am still learning. He still rolls his eyes at me when I attempt to talk about retro games…

My favourite genres of gaming have to be action/adventure, FPS, and RPGs when I have the time. It is so difficult to say exactly what your favourite games are, but I would have to say The Orange Box, Bioshock, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Assassin’s Creed (plus many more) have been recent additions. When I’m not with controller or fiddling with the site you might find me with my rabbit, crafting, gardening, or staring at my army of Lego men (if anyone wants to send me presents of Lego please email me!).

Genius, visionary, awe inspiring. These are just some words people use to describe the intense figure that was… Jeremy Beadle. Abrupt, rude, a complete waste of human skin. These are the words we think Jeremy would of used to describe Ryan Syrett.

With a shortness of breath and a multitude of beard combinations Jenn and I have built, wrote and maintained DBR in the hope that readers will accept our video games opinions as gospel robotic truths, and will eventually learn to bow and cower beneath their new cybernetic overlords.

Until that time I can be found either playing SKATE 3 for the 300th hour, making comics about overzealous conscious crabs, or offering my video game opinions to questions that were never asked.

You know you have hardcore gamers, and then you get your casual gamers? I’m somewhere in between… don’t hate me for it. I have a passion for video games, I love sitting down and playing the games I have an interest in but a lack of time stops me from hitting the dizzy heights of becoming a hardcore gamer.

My earliest memories of gaming was playing the C64 when I was probably 3 years old. There was a Thomas the Tank Engine game where you had to get Thomas from one side of the screen to the other… man I loved that game. From there I progressed onto a Mega Drive where I can safely say I had some of the most fun in my life; Streets of Rage, John Madden Football and the original FIFA were some of my favourites. I then went the Playstation route; PSone, PS2 and now I own both a PS3 and an Xbox 360. I am a massive fan of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, but my favourite games of all times are the Conflict series (minus Denied Ops…). Split Screen Co-Op FTW.

When I’m not gaming I am working full time in marketing, playing football (when I’m not injured), playing poker and doing various other bits and pieces.

Residing in a zone that is somewhere near hardcore gamer, but playing the games that nobody else does, is the man known as Doomey.

Doomey was first found shuffling around the dark recesses of working men’s clubs, shoving silver coins from his pockets to feed machines like Space Invaders and Pac-Man. Eventually home consoles prevented him from escaping his solitude, and thus a new era had arrived.

He currently only owns an Xbox 360 because there isn’t any games he wants to touch on the PS3. He said the following: “There’s no games I fancy on the PS3!” That is all. Doomey’s favourite game genres include god sims, RPGs, RTS, puzzle games, point and clicks, and anything that is unique.

When asked what his favourite game was he showed us a shrine where a copy of Black and White lay. He then told us not to touch it whilst ushering us out of the house with a pointy stick.

When not gaming Doomey can be found watching too many movies, listening to way too much music, and spending way too much time with his son.

Born in an era where there was no longer fear of communism or nuclear war, and the scariest thing on television was Tony Blair’s haircut, I turned to video games at an early age for my thrills! Everything after that and before this morning is somewhat of a blur… so I’ll tell you what I can remember!

I’m a PC Gamer at heart, and always have been, though through some odd sequence of events I own nearly every other console. I engage in any genre of game with an open mind, except sports games, because deep down I’m a secret fatty!

In this thing we call Real Life, I am currently studying for a degree in human geography, so that I can tell you when it’s going to be cold out! I do video editing on the side, so that I can keep my cat and I in the Jaffa Cakes! I am also Commissar of Intergalactic Based Communications for my semi-successful YouTube channel, TheGrumpyBrit.

Remember that thing scientists say, “If you give enough monkeys enough typewriters, eventually they’ll type the works of Shakespeare?” Well that’s probably the best description of me trying to write. I game mostly on Xbox, but I do dust off the PS3 for the occasional romp through an exclusive title. I spend an excessive amount of time playing shooters, sports, and RPG titles, and my unbridled love for Mass Effect borders on requiring legal action and/or psychological help.I write about the games for which I foster strong feelings, love or hate. I do this because as a gamer the only thing that gets me more excited than playing a game is starting a conversation about one, and getting other gamers excited too. As well as writing about video games I have also been known to write and blog about my other passion: Science. So if you have any burning questions about Mario Kart or astrophysics then feel free to direct them to me!I’m also down with the Comic Books, and have a soft (but sometimes hard) spot for all things DC. And don’t get me started on Star Trek, it’s like setting a car alarm off: I’ll be loud, I won’t shut up, and it’ll probably end in tears (of joy). In a similar manner you will hear my drunken rants on the Podcast, usually interlaced with inappropriate comments about the pope. WARNING: If you feed me cheese I will not be responsible for my subsequent actions.

‘I feel…like I…like I could…TAKE OVER THE WORLD!’ – The great opening scene with purple and green tentacle from the PC classic The Day of The Tentacle (one of the best games ever!). This is my first memory of gaming and ooooh boy you can’t get much better.

Back in my childhood days I loved this game, along with Jason Storm, Paperboy, Doom I & II, Wolfenstein and Fifa World Cup ’94. I was destined to dabble with games for my forseeable future… oh and did I mention Wing Commander with Mark Hamill as the main character? They don’t make PC games quite like they used to…

Now I tend to be found playing countless months on Football Manager 2011 (until 2012 is out), CoD (until the new one) and Oblivion (until Skyrim!!!), with Xbox 360 and my M11x Laptop as my weapons of choice.

Outside of gaming I’m studying for a diploma in Health & Safety (oh the joys), playing football (with Joe when he’s fit), playing tennis, listening to metal, or reading fantasy book after fantasy book (currently re-reading LOTR).

The Garf (Resident Artist)

Whilst playing Street Fighter 2 input ‘down, down/forward, forward and punch’ and Ryu or Ken will send The Garf hurtling towards your opponent for a Super Hyper Combo finish. When you score a goal in Pro Evo you can hear The Garf cheer. At the end of Tetris it is The Garf who boards his rocket and heads skyward.

Whilst flying through the cosmos The Garf can be seen scribbling what he thinks about games… you see, he doesn’t like many games… being a stuck up artist he feels the current state of games is bland, repetitive and in need of life. He remembers a time of innovation and excitement, blowing dust out of cartridges, switching disks whilst they spin, fixing cassettes with pencils, and knows that there is some small amount of excitement to be found in todays game pile.

The few games that do tickle The Garf will be praised by him. You can find his occasional dribbles here…

Please pester him to produce more at garf@deathbyrobots.com [Editor's note: please do this or he will never stop being lazy!]
