155 hours…
The game has been available for only 16 days now, and 6.5 of those days have been spent playing Football Manager 12… and it is for that reason that my review of the game comes somewhat belatedly. It is however a testament to the sheer addictiveness this game can succumb people to. [Editor's note - since writing this, which was admittedly a few weeks ago - sorry, Ed has racked up a total of 531 hours in 2.5 months...].
Snow crunches under foot as I sneak up to the Bandit hideout. The wind is searingly cold this high in the mountains and cuts through my dwarven armour. My Imperial Bow at the ready I take aim at the Bandit leader, when a terrible roar is heard from the skies. The bandits start to scream and scatter but they are of no importance now. The inevitable swoop of wings and glistening of scales off of moonlight mark my new, more deadly foe. A dragon. And as a Dovahkiin, Dragonborn, it is my fate to absorb its soul and save Skyrim.
If you were brought up properly and listened in science at school, like I know you did, you would all know you’re not really supposed to guide a blob of liquid metal around by tilting the world beneath it. That is until Mercury Hg came along.
It’s safe to say I’ve been one of the people over the last week or two to be constantly monitoring the tweets of @milessi (Miles Jacobsen, MD of Sports Interactive), to see if he’ll finally give us the release date of the demo so we can all whet our appetites before the official release on October 21st. Yes, being a hardcore gamer, I am ever impatient.
When visiting the Eurogamer Expo if I didn’t do anything else I had to grab myself a free OnLive console that the lovely people at the booth had been giving away each day. Thankfully I was lucky enough to be at the front of the queue on Saturday and grab myself a console.
Over the years, there have been a number of successful and enjoyable space strategy games (Sins of the Solar Empire and Sword of the Stars), and Armada 2526 tries to capitalize on these successes, bringing the genre to a wider audience with more accessible gameplay.
When I saw this announced I knew I had to cover it, as RollerCoaster Tycoon played a big part in my PC-gaming upbringing – as a child/young teenager being able to manage and create your own theme park was a dream come true.
Over at the German gathering of gamers ‘Gamescom’ event, EA Sports announced that the demo for FIFA 12 is set to be released on September 13th, two weeks prior to the official full release.
It’s coming round to that time again, when all footballing men break up with their girlfriends; that’s right, the new Football Manager game feels a little closer to release.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Snowblind Studios have recently announced that their ’18-rated’ upcoming Lord of the Rings: War in the North title is scheduled for release in November 2011.
